Principal Kevin Takisaki

Kevin Takisaki

Kevin Takisaki is originally from Spokane, Washington. He earned BA’s in Spanish and Theater from Washington State University in 2008. He joined WSU’s Teaching Program earning his Master’s in 2010. Kevin began his career as a teacher in the Renton School District at Hazen High School, teaching Spanish and Leadership for five years. Throughout his time as a teacher-leader, he focused his efforts on implementing equitable practices throughout the school system, creating opportunities for student voice, and developing unique after school programs.

In 2016, Kevin began his transition to administration. He attended the University of Washington’s Danforth Program and began working as the Dean of Students at Hazen High School. Through the Danforth Program, his studies focused on racial equity in education. He earned his certificate in educational administration in 2017.

As an Assistant Principal, Kevin spent one year at Newport High School in the Bellevue School District followed by five years at Talley High School in the Renton School District. He is most proud of developing the Restorative Justice system that helped in reducing behavior referrals by a sustained 75% over five years. Outside of work he loves spending time with his wife Julia and son Yoshiro.

Kevin Takisaki is excited to lead the development of Highline’s reengagement program at Innovation Heights Academy. He is committed to serving students and developing equitable systems of support to help students achieve their goals.
