Our Promise, Our Stories: Bringing Growth to Life in Highline

Our Promise, Our Stories: Bringing Growth to Life in Highline

Highline students are growing as readers, problem-solvers, collaborators and leaders. The 2024-25 annual report shows what that growth looks like in real classrooms, and how it happens when students are known by name, strength and need.

Our Promise, Our Stories brings together classroom stories and data from the 2024–25 school year to show how our strategic plan shapes real experiences for students and staff. It highlights our progress, areas for continued growth and where staff are focus their work.

In 2024–25, Highline introduced four priorities: literacy and language, student supports, inclusion and secondary redesign. These priorities support our four strategic plan goals:

  • Culture of Belonging: A culture where all are welcome, valued and safe.
  • Innovative Learning: Academic experiences that engage, empower and challenge every student.
  • Bilingual & Biliterate: Multicultural skills that prepare students to communicate across cultures.
  • Future Ready: Opportunities for students to explore possibilities and shape their pathways forward.

Superintendent Dr. Ivan Duran explains how Highline measures student learning with a focus on equity and student success. He also shares why student growth over time matters alongside  proficiency.

Measuring growth ensures we meet students at their individual level, honor their strengths, and help every learner see their own progress.

“When a student starts to experience success, it just builds. It creates excitement. It creates joy,” Dr. Duran shares. “The more that we can help our students own their learning, the more success they’re going to have, and the more they’re going to grow as a learner here in our schools.”
